Selection of filter material for activated carbon filter
Sep 14, 2018

Activated carbon filter mainly uses activated carbon filter media to achieve the use of functions, this paper mainly for the water treatment industry supporting the selection of activated carbon filter media.

Activated carbon is a kind of porous carbonaceous material. It has highly developed pore structure and is an excellent adsorbent. Its adsorption is achieved by physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Because of the difference of raw materials and manufacturing process, different activated carbon filters should be selected for water treatment in different industries.

1. Coal activated carbon:

Coal-based activated carbon is mainly used for filling, dechlorination, deoiling and purification of municipal drinking water, purified water, distilled water, ultra-pure water and other manufacturing equipment, as well as advanced purification of various industrial wastewater.

Coal-based activated carbon is made from high-quality coal by carbonization, cooling, activation and washing. Its appearance is generally black cylindrical activated carbon, amorphous coal granular activated carbon, also known as broken carbon. The other is cylindrical activated carbon, also known as cylindrical carbon, generally made from powdered raw materials and binders by kneading, extrusion molding and carbonization, activation and other processes.

2. Nut shell activated carbon

Fruit shell activated carbon is widely used in drinking water, industrial water and wastewater deep purification; all kinds of gas separation, purification, purification, edible grade of fruit shell activated carbon is more widely used in group and household water purifiers, water dispensers and power plants, petrochemical and other water treatment projects.

Activated carbon from apricot shell, peach shell, walnut shell and jujube shell was refined by carbonization, activation and superheated steam Cui-hua. The appearance of the activated carbon was black amorphous particles, which was processed by a series of production processes.

Activated carbon adsorption range:

1. It can remove most organic pollutants and some inorganic substances in secondary effluent, and contains some toxic heavy metals.

2. Purification of toxic gases in waste gas treatment

3. Effective adsorption of chlorinated hydrocarbons, organophosphorus and carbamate insecticides, but also adsorption of phenyl ether, n-nitrochlorobenzene, naphthalene, ethylene, xylene, phenol, DDT, aldrin, alkylbenzene sulfonic acid and many esters and aromatic compounds.

Problems to be solved in engineering application:

A. Dust pollution problems in application. In the application of powdered activated carbon in waterworks, because of its high labor intensity in many links, such as loading and unloading, unpacking, preparing and adding, it is easy to cause dust flying, resulting in bad working environment and strong resistance of operators, it has become a key and substantive problem that restricts the application of powdered activated carbon technology.

B. Activated carbon pollution, due to its porous structure, provides a good living environment for microbial growth. For most water departments, water pollution is usually intermittent or sudden, and most of them are intermittent. However, due to the growth of microorganisms, it must be replaced regularly, which increases the operating costs.
